On the evening of July 15th, at the YCI’s summer headquarters in Portofino, the activity of the ONE sailing catamaran from the Centro Velico Caprera was presented. The catamaran is conducting a research and monitoring campaign on the health of the Tyrrhenian Sea with the support of the scientific partner One Ocean Foundation, which shared the initiative.

In Portofino, the event was attended by the Mayors of Genoa and Portofino, Marco Bucci and Matteo Viacava, the President of the One Ocean Foundation Riccardo Bonadeo, Admiral Massimiliano Nannini, director of the Hydrographic Institute of the Italian Navy, Enrico Bertacchi, Secretary General of the Centro Velico Caprera, and hosting the event was the President of the Yacht Club Italiano, Gerolamo Bianchi.

Marine Adventure for Research and Education, hence the acronym M.A.R.E., began in La Maddalena on April 29th with a 12-week navigation program and 10 stops in as many Marine Protected Areas. So far, during the navigation, 1300 miles have been covered, over 40 water samples have been taken, and many other activities have been carried out to protect the sea and the coastal ecosystem.

After the stop in Portofino, the ONE catamaran set sail for Varazze, and then headed towards Sardinia, to conclude its journey in La Maddalena, where it had started from. Specifically, from the Circolo Ufficiali della Marina Militare, which sponsors the initiative along with the Coast Guard, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, and the Italian Naval League.
